One of the questions I get from friends, family, or just people who find out I'm a DJ, is "What do I need to ask, or look for, when selecting a DJ?" Here are a few of my suggestions.
Before I get started, let me first say that none of these should be a deal breaker. These are just some items you should consider when selecting a DJ for your event.
Length of Time as a DJ
With the technology that is out there today, anyone can call themselves a DJ. What helps a DJ become a good one is experience. The longer one has been in the field, the more situations she/he has been in and the better chance they are better prepared to handle life's little hiccups if they occur.
Venues/Events as a DJ
Another factor that helps with experience is playing at different events and venues. If you are needing a DJ to play at your wedding ceremony, but the DJ you have selected has never played at one before, you might have to do more coaching than you're wanting. Also, the DJ might not have the equipment needed to provide the proper sound for your ceremony.
Music Catalog
A good DJ should have a large music catalog with a wide variety. With music streaming and subscription services, a DJ should be able to provide almost any song request you, or your guests, have.
